SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The popular Stream Profile Chamber at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center has been closed since the glass broke during a routine cleaning almost one year ago. With financial help from the Tahoe Fund and Tahoe Blue Vodka, those walking the Rainbow Trail will once again be able to get an up-close underwater view of aquatic life and the spawning Kokanee salmon at Lake Tahoe each year.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - What is sustainable tourism and what does it mean for Lake Tahoe?

The future of Tahoe tourism needs to be sustainable. This year’s Annual Tourism Forum will address this global concern on a local level on Thursday, May 30 at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Responsible tourism is something all businesses in the Lake Tahoe basin are working towards and this year’s forum will explore that theme. The forum will include a main keynote speaker, two general sessions, and breakout sessions designed to get a closer look at four key topics.

A man with strong Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada ties has been named the new town manager for Genoa, Nevada.

On January 25, the Genoa Town Board voted unanimously to extend an offer to JT Chevallier to take the helm of the historic town just over the mountain from South Lake Tahoe.

“We had a difficult decision to make with some highly qualified candidates,” said Chairman to the Board Steven Shively. “Overall we are excited to bring JT on board and to set future goals and strategies for the Town of Genoa."

The Tahoe Fund is actively seeking new project ideas to help solve the challenges facing Lake Tahoe. The nonprofit is interested in projects with fundraising goals of $5,000 to $1,000,000 that will improve lake clarity, outdoor recreation, forest resilience, transportation and stewardship.

Organizations are invited to submit project ideas by January 31, 2019 at tahoefund.org/challenge.

The Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition is distributing 215 free bicycle racks throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin, creating secure parking for 430 bicycles at key public destinations.

The Nevada Department of Transportation this week completed the second construction season of the State Route 28 Shared Use Path, Water Quality and Safety Improvement Project near Incline Village. The entire project is anticipated to complete in late 2018 or early 2019, depending on weather.

During their meeting Thursday, the California Tahoe Conservancy Board elected South Lake Tahoe City Councilwoman Brooke Laine as their chair. She is the City’s appointee to the Board and will be replacing longtime Chair Larry Sevison.

Visitors to Lake Tahoe’s east shore could soon have a new bike path linking upscale Incline Village to Nevada’s Sand Harbor State Park, but the price tag might induce sticker shock: $12.5 million for the 3-mile project.
