Inaugural Lake Tahoe Color Themed 5k Run a "Blast"

Bursts of color surrounded the over 100 runners as they participated in the inaugural Tahoe Youth and Family Service's Color Blast Run on Saturday, September 14. The 5k course meandered through the Lake Tahoe Community College parking lot, streets and bike paths. The race name comes from colored cornstarch that is doused over the runners and they pass by strategically placed stations along the course. Once the runners came across the finish line there was a celebration of dancing and lots more color being tossed.

Texas Hold'em Tournament to Benefit Tahoe Youth & Family Services

Enjoy a night of playing poker with your friends while helping support Tahoe Youth & Family Services. A Texas Hold'em tournament is going to be held at Lakeside Inn on Tuesday, October 1 at 6 p.m. Beginners and skilled players are welcome as there will be fun for all.

Prizes will be given to the top 3 places for the evening. A $100 buy-in gets players $1,500 in tournament chips. Sign ups will be taken at the Lakeside Inn Poker room on the day of the tournament. Unlimited rebuys will be allowed through the 6th round.

Pumpkin and Pony Festival in South Lake Tahoe

Inaugural "Pony N Pumpkin" festival will be held over the weekend of October 11-13, 2013 at Forest Suites in South Lake Tahoe. There will be local food growers, games, pony rides and pumpkins! A percentage of all proceeds will be going to the following 4 non-profits (Lions Club, National Forest Foundation, Tahoe Youth and Family Services and Pony Express Territory Nevada).

Local businessman Tony Grasso is hosting a Hot Tub Tent Sale September 6 through September 8 at the Tahoe Valley Pharmacy parking lot at 2074 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe. Grasso, the owner of Hot Springs Spas and Hot Tubs, has Fantasy Spas for sale at the very low price of $2995 while supplies last. A portion of all sales will go to support Tahoe Youth & Family Services.

Color Blast!

You've seen it. You've heard about it. Now it's time to participate in it! The Inaugural Tahoe Youth & Family Services Color Blast is coming to Lake Tahoe this September! Get your team together and plan on having the time of your life....it's a real BLAST!

Teams will run around a 5k course at Lake Tahoe Community College. At strategically placed points the runners will be doused with color....it's all safe and non-toxic (color corn starch). There are no race winners, no timed runs..its all about fun. You can even walk if you wish!

United Way partners with grants to help Lake Tahoe area agencies

Several Lake Tahoe area nonprofit organizations and agencies will receive financial aid this year through partnerships announced Monday by the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra.

The partnerships are aimed to address issues identified in each of the Lake Tahoe area communities, said Karen Barsell, CEO and president of United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra.

The 2012 American Century Championship continues to benefit Tahoe South as the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority distributed $64,500 to 23 non-profit groups through funds raised during the annual celebrity golf tournament.

Barton Health supports Lake Tahoe area organizations in need

“Empowerment” is the premise of Barton Health's Community Advisory Committee (CAC). After careful evaluation of 19 grant applications, nine-non-profits recently received $24,000 in grants from the CAC. Through these grants, the CAC is able to “empower” area community programs with funding to help close the health gaps and address health issues within the community.

Snow safety outreach program focuses South Lake Tahoe youth

The City of South Lake Tahoe’s Public Works Snow Removal Operation visited Sierra House Elementary Schools kindergarten and first grade classes to promote snow safety today. Street Supervisor Azril Kalik shared important safety reminders to Ms. Wilson and Ms. Tabor’s first graders.

“When you see the snow removal machines in your neighborhood, it’s important to go inside and play to remain safe. Remember to keep toys, sleds, shovels and your pets out of the road so they do not get damaged,” said Kalik.

In an effort to impact the health of our community the Barton Foundation recently opened their grant opportunities for programs and organizations benefitting the South Lake Tahoe area. Barton Health Grants provide funding for programs targeted at underserved populations and/or providing great impact to the health status of the community. The total grant amount available for 2012 is set at $25,000 and is generally dispersed between five and 10 local organizations.

Livestrong, American Century give $100,000 to South Lake Tahoe area nonprofits

The holiday arrived early for 27 South Lake Tahoe non-profit organizations Thursday, Dec. 8, as $100,000 in charitable contributions was distributed on behalf of LIVESTRONG® and the American Century Championship by the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority.

“We’re fortunate to have the support from LIVESTRONG, NBC Sports and American Century Investments to assist to the local community,” said Carol Chaplin, executive director of the LTVA in a news release. “In addition to an outstanding event which attracts visitors, our 22-year partnership also helps local groups in need.”
