Human Rights Campaign hosting South Lake Tahoe event

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The national Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is fighting for equality in the upcoming midterm elections and to gather support locally, no matter which side of the aisle one votes, an event is being held at Sidellis Brewery on Thursday, October 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

HRC is working with the ALLY clubs at both South Tahoe High School (STHS) and Lake Tahoe Community College to engage LGBTQ voices and mobilize pro-equality voters to hold lawmakers accountable.

Todd Borg, award-winning author, will discuss his much anticipated 16th book in the Owen McKenna Mystery Series, "Tahoe Skydrop". This mystery, set in Tahoe involves a brilliant young child who knows about computer encryption is kidnapped in an effort to unlock stolen software that could be worth as much as a billion dollars. Tahoe Detective Owen McKenna must grapple with both a murderous gang as well as with the child's impulsive and obstinate father who doesn't accept that his kid is transgender. Book sale and signing will follow.

Person of interest identified in South Shore homicide

Jose DeJesus Rodriguez Quezada, 44, has been identified as a person of interest in the murder of a man in a room at the Hard Rock Hotel in Stateline, Nevada.

On October 3, deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) began an investigation into the death of Kevin Leroy Edwards, 56, after he was found deceased at the hotel. Edwards was from Dublin, California and, most recently, Reno, Nevada.

First artist announced for South Lake Tahoe's summer concert series

Third Eye Blind will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary with Summer Gods Tour at Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harvey's on July 16, 2017. This is the first concert announced for the popular summer concerts.

Their supporting act(s) have not been announced.

Third Eye Blind will, for the first time in their storied history, play their debut album, considered one of the great rock records of all time, in its entirety, as part of a night of music including their latest, We Are Drugs. They are touring 31 cities as part of the the tour.

Founder of South Tahoe High Ally Club returns to speak to students

Being gay and a high school student in South Lake Tahoe in 2005 was challenging.

"It was a scary, dark place at the time," said Alex Boyar, who 'came out of the closet' at age 14. "Its a much different environment today."

Boyar, along with his mother Dr. Virginia Berry and sister Christina Boyar, stopped by South Tahoe High Thursday to talk to the students of Ally, the Gay-Straight Alliance Club at the school that he co-founded in 2005.

Transgender Bill for School Equality is Passed Into Law

California Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law Assembly Bill 1266 which allows transgender youth to use whatever bathroom and participate on whichever sports team they believe matches their gender identity. Tahoe Pride celebrates LGBT month

For Tahoe Pride, it’s all about developing a tolerant and diverse community. Gregory Cremeans founded Tahoe Pride in 2010 as a way to bring people out of the closet and together through social gatherings and other events.

The group’s mission: to create a safe, welcoming haven for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender residents and to promote education and communication throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin.
