Water clarity at Lake Tahoe improved in 2011
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 9:54amLake Tahoe clarity improved in 2011, but overall has remained nearly stable since 2000, according to a summary issued by UC Davis scientists who study the lake. Data released today by the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency reported the average annual clarity level for 2011 at 68.9 feet, a 4.5-foot improvement over 2010, when average clarity levels were the second-worst on record.

Lecture on fragrances at Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences

Sometimes, it might be a headache or nausea when passing by a department store’s fragrance counter or riding in an elevator with someone wearing a certain fragrance. However, there is a growing number of people who suffer more severe reactions to these and many other types of products and chemicals. This condition is known as multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS) and involves people who have developed an acute sensitivity to various chemicals in the environment.
League to Save Lake Tahoe Names Darcie Goodman-Collins as New Executive Director
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 01/17/2012 - 12:00pmSouth Shore native Darcie Goodman-Collins has been named the new executive director of the League to Save Lake Tahoe, officials announced today. She replaces Rochelle Nason who resigned last September.
“I’m very excited to move back to Lake Tahoe. I grew up skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and waterskiing on our beautiful lake. I am passionate about science, education, and the Lake. I will lead the League’s efforts to restore the Lake and work hand in hand with the local community to do so,” said Goodman-Collins in a news release.

On January 5, 2012 from 2 to 5 p.m., the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center will host a winter-themed Family Science Day. Families are invited to explore the mysteries of snow and ice. Engaging activities will provide your child an opportunity to learn about the science of winter. Agency and Lake Tahoe Scientists Share Knowledge with Lake George

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and a delegation from the Lake Tahoe Aquatic Invasive Species Program presented to a consortium of public agencies, non-profits and interest group at Lake George, New York last month.
TRPA’s Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator Ted Thayer, Sudeep Chandra, Professor of Limnology from University Nevada Reno, and Marion Wittmann, Postdoctoral Research Associate from the University of Notre Dame and UC Davis, traveled to Lake George to speak about the Lake Tahoe Aquatic Invasive Species Program and ongoing research.
Police pepper spray and arrest passive students protesting at UC Davis
