Kudos: STAR thanks community for successful blood drive

The South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® partnered with Vitalant, previously
United Blood Services, to host a Blood Drive on Monday, June 17. This event was open to the public. Realtors® and members of the community made appointments and dropped in to donate. There was a total of 22 donors, translating into 66 lives that can be saved.

“This is something that really only takes minutes of your time and is free to give. I’m happy to donate each year and glad to know that it will impact someone’s life in a positive way,” said Kili Ongoy, Chair of the Community Involvement Committee.

Blood drive on the South Shore August 28

Vegas shooting: Governor signs emergency declarations; blood donations soar statewide

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval signed a Declaration of Emergency for Clark County and a Public Health and Medical Disaster declaration on Monday following the mass shooting incident in Las Vegas Sunday night that killed at least 59 people and wounded more than 500.

Through the order, Sandoval has directed all state agencies to supplement the local efforts to save lives and protect the health and safety the victims of Sunday night’s attack.

Blood drive Monday in South Lake Tahoe

It is always a good time to donate blood, but after the tragedy in Las Vegas overnight, there is no time like the present to give the gift of life. Hundreds are lining up in Las Vegas to donate blood, but there is also a pre-planned drive in South Lake Tahoe on Monday at Lake Tahoe Community College from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The drive is being held in the school's Aspen Room at One College Drive.

Blood Drive in South Lake Tahoe Friday

The South Lake Tahoe Board of Realtors is holding a blood drive on Friday, September 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at their office.

Zika Virus depleting blood supplies

United Blood Services is holding a blood drive Wednesday, May 18 at Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District Station 23 in Round Hill. Donations have declined since mid-March and the demand has escalated, dropping the available supply of Type O-Negative and Type O-positive to extremely low levels. Blood center officials have concluded that an increase in Zika deferrals after Spring Break travels has caused a decline in public responsiveness to donate blood.

Community blood drive at Whittell High School March 19

March is Donor Appreciation Month so all blood donors will receive 500 extra Hero reward points for giving during the month. By donating blood just once in March earns people enough points to obtain a free movie ticket. There are also other rewards available.

United Blood Services will be at Whittell High School on Thursday, March 19 for the school's Blood Drive from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It will be held in the school's new gym lcoated at 240 Warrior Way in Zephyr Cove.

Donate blood in South Lake Tahoe on Thursday

Inventories of some blood types have taken a dip in recent weeks and are needed in the community. United Blood Services watches their inventories closely to ensure they have the necessary blood products on the shelf for people in our community in need of a blood transfusion for elective and trauma surgeries and other serious medical conditions.

They are holding a blood drive at the Tahoe Douglas Fire Department at 193 Elks Point R on Thursday, September 25 from noon to 5 p.m. to help fill those shelves with blood.
