Fire personnel in the Lake Tahoe Basin have been put on alert for this Sunday because of the possibility of strong winds that could cause a wildland fire to intensify and spread rapidly. Forest Service temporarily reduces Incline Village office hours

New hours are in the mix, at least temporarily, for the Incline Village office of the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. Beginning Jan. 11, the office at 855 Alder Ave., will be open Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The change is a reduction of about two hours each day and is only temporary, said Lisa Herron, Forest Service spokeswoman. It is not a result of funding cuts but changes to staffing.

UDPATE12:45PM: A prescribed fire on Upper Kingsbury Grade conducted two weeks ago rekindled, touching off about 14 acres before it was fully contained late this morning, according to the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.
"The fire is 100 percent contained," said spokeswoman Cheva Heck.
