Strong early voter turnout in El Dorado County

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Of the 133,251 registered voters in El Dorado County, 30,886, or 23 percent, have already turned in their ballots. The elections department does not have data from the 2016 election at the same point in time. That election had 97,024 or 83.31 percent of the 116,459 registered that year, turn in ballots by election day.

As of October 15:

Ballots returned by mail - 14,966
​Ballots returned in a drop box - 15,920

Of those ballots, 28,996 have had signatures verified against reference signature and the balance of 1,890 are awaiting verification.

Strong early voting in El Dorado County

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - El Dorado County voters have historically been a mail-in ballot voter, with about 80 percent of those registered putting their ballot in the mail.

So far, over 34,000 ballots have been received by the El Dorado County Elections Office and tabulated. This is about 35 percent of the 124,353 registered and eligible to cast their vote in this primary election.

Changes to how voters will vote in 2020: South Lake Tahoe vote center and drop box locations

With the March primaries just weeks away, voters will be considering not only their choices on the ballot but will also need to consider how they will cast their votes in South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County.

With poor voter turnout, especially in South Lake Tahoe, and more registered voters choosing to vote by mail, the polling places set up on election days were not frequently used.

Election update: 47 votes separate nays and yeas on South Lake Tahoe Measure T

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Another round of votes were released Friday, narrowing the gap between yes and no on Measure T once again. The citizen generated measure call for a ban of all vacation rentals in South Lake Tahoe except for those in what is called the "tourist core."

49 votes were added to the Measure T count, 19 "for" and 30 "against."

There were approximately 2,600 vote by mail ballots still to count this week for all of El Dorado County which includes provisional ballots and 160 conditionals ballots from South Lake Tahoe.

That leaves about 1,800 left to tally.

Update - 1:20 a.m. 11/7/18: With a large voter turnout the processing of ballots is taking longer than normal. A power outage caused by a car hitting a power line near Blackwood Avenue caused some excitement for voters but did not delay the count as there are procedures in place for such an incident.

Voter turnout expected to be high in El Dorado County

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - From 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., local voters will be casting their decisions for the future of South Lake Tahoe government, El Dorado County government, cannabis, vacation rentals and state and federal issues and candidates.

A historic number of voters are expected both nationally and locally. During the last California gubernatorial election in 2014 voter turnout was at a record low, but the opposite is expected in 2018.

California voters had rejected every statewide tax measure since 2004 until they approved two of them last week. They also said yes to 70 percent of the local tax and bond measures on last week’s ballot. But this may not be the start of a new trend.

Nevada early voting begins in Stateline

Early voting for the general election in Nevada begins today. Lake Tahoe voters living in Douglas County can cast their votes at the county's Stateline Kahle Community Center offices at 175 Hwy 50. According to the Douglas County Clerk, early voting at Stateline will continue today to 4 p.m. again on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
