SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Effective the end of November, the South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) is ending an agreement with Alpine County regarding its recycled water operations.

STPUD has paid Alpine County an annual mitigation fee to address potential impacts caused by recycled water for 35 years, a fee that is approximately $100,000 per year.

STPUD says there have not been adverse impacts from the recycled water operations and the agreement is no longer necessary.

A precautionary boil water notice has been issued for the Cave Rock Water System in Douglas County due to treatment plant shutdown, computer failure, and a data logging loss at the Cave Rock Water Treatment Plant.

Because of this, Douglas County is required to hang precautionary boil water notices until they take bacteriological samples. Once this process is complete and samples are clean, they can rescind the boil water notices.

The boil water notice is only precautionary at this time but Douglas County is taking the proper steps to ensure the safety of residents.

A precautionary boil water notice has been issued for the Cave Rock Water and Skyland System in Douglas County due to a computer error at the Cave Rock Water Treatment Plant. Because of this, each customer in the area has received a notice hung on their doors, advising them to take precautions and boil their water until further notice.

Water officials need to recover the data from the error or take (2) consecutive bacteriological samples, back to back, 24 hours apart. Douglas County is moving forward with efforts to recover the data and to collect samples for testing.

The body of a Pollock Pines man was located just after 8:00 a.m. Tuesday after going missing in an El Dorado Irrigation District (EID) untreated raw water conduit on Monday at about 4:00 p.m.

Tory Robert Mayes, a 34-year-old from Pollock Pines, went into the EID’s Camino Conduit pipe that carries raw water from Jenkinson Lake to EID’s water treatment plant 1.5 miles away.

For the third in four years, water in Douglas County has won the Best Tasting Water award for the state of Nevada.

The Nevada Rural Water Association (NvRWA) announced that the Cave Rock Water Treatment Plant had won first place at their recent conference in Reno. The service area includes Cave Rock, Lakeside and Skyland systems next to beautiful Lake Tahoe.

"It's going to be an interesting journey," then-TRPA director Juan Palma told Bob Mecay back in 2002. Little did Mecay know then that it would take until 2016 to see completion of that journey.

Mecay, President of Tahoe Beach Club, unveiled the end of the journey in a beachfront groundbreaking ceremony Monday in a spot that will see 143 condominium residences, a private beach club, two to five-bedroom condominiums, a private pier, lakefront clubhouse, health club, spa and pool.

The South Tahoe Public Utility District (District) is currently in the process of preparing the 2016/2017 budget. We invite the community to participate in a Public Meeting and Presentation on the Proposed Budget and Capital Improvement Plan at the District Offices on May 12, 2016, at 6 pm.

In 2014, the District sent a five-year Proposition 218 notice to all customers; this permitted the District to increase water rates up to a maximum of 6.5% and sewer rates up to a maximum of 6.0%.

The remaining tenants at the Tahoe Shore Mobile Home Park at Stateline, Nev., have been given 90 days to find new housing now that owners of the Tahoe Beach Club will be breaking ground on a 20-acre luxury lakefront condominium project.

This announcement should come as no surprise to the people who own or rent the mobile homes since they were originally told in 2003 that they would have to move so the project could be built.

The Tahoe Beach Club has been 14 years in the making and now it looks like the first shovels will be moving dirt at the new lakeside development by June, 2016.

There will soon be a new Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City now that the Tahoe Transportation District has secured all of the $33 million needed to complete the State Route 89/Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project and Meeks Bay Trail Project.

Twenty years and many meetings later, the Tahoe Valley Area Plan unanimously passed the first of two final hurdles at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

In the first reading to adopt the three resolutions which make up the plan, Mayor Hal Cole and the City Council thanked everyone who was part of the long process to start shaping things up at the "Y". "This plan will have an impact for years to come," said Cole.

A unanimous vote by the South Lake Tahoe City Council on Tuesday paved the way for the formation of a Community Facilities District (CFD) in the Bijou area which will have a major impact on Lake Tahoe's water quality.

The $18M water project improvements include replacement of the failing Bijou Creek storm drainage culvert and construction of a regional storm water treatment system for the 42-acre Bijou commercial core project area. It will provide a third of the pollutant load reduction in the City's municipal stormwater system.

The South Lake Tahoe City Council voted October 18 to approve the budget for Fiscal Year 2011-2012, which imposed layoffs for 19 employees who were relieved of their duties last Friday, November 18.
