Precautionary boil water notice issued for Cave Rock and Skyland water customers

A precautionary boil water notice has been issued for the Cave Rock Water and Skyland System in Douglas County due to a computer error at the Cave Rock Water Treatment Plant. Because of this, each customer in the area has received a notice hung on their doors, advising them to take precautions and boil their water until further notice.

Water officials need to recover the data from the error or take (2) consecutive bacteriological samples, back to back, 24 hours apart. Douglas County is moving forward with efforts to recover the data and to collect samples for testing.

Once this process is complete and samples are clean, we can rescind the boil water notices.

There is a microfiltration plant for treatment and officials maintained consistent normal chlorine residual throughout the period when the error occurred. The boil water notice is only precautionary at this time, but they are taking the proper steps to ensure the safety of residents.
