Submitted by Editor on Thu, 11/29/2012 - 10:49pmThe South Lake Tahoe Fire Department would like to remind residents that sand bags are available at Fire Station 3 located at 2101 Lake Tahoe Boulevard (near the “Y”) and at Bijou Park located at 1201 Al Tahoe Boulevard. There is no cost for the sand bags and residents are limited to ten (10) sand bags per household.
To pick-up your sand bags at Fire Station 3, access the rear of the property from James Avenue. At the back of the station is a large sand mound and residents can fill their own bags. Bags and shovels are located in a bin next to the sand mound.

The effort is a special federally funded pilot program using the region to test tactics that may be employed nationally in the future.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory and Wind Advisory from 10 Thursday night through 4 p.m. Friday for areas above 7,000 feet. For the first wave of a series of three storms, anywhere between 8 to 16 inches of snow is expected around 7,000 feet and above and between 2 to 3 feet above 8,000 feet.

AT&T phone, internet line damaged in South Lake Tahoe

AT&T phone and internet customers in the Bonanza neighborhood (businesses and residents behind the Raley’s at the “Y”) are currently without service. AT&T has been contacted and work has begun to restore service. Electrical power was not affected in this neighborhood.
