Carson City Vietnam veterans make it personal

Event Date:
January 11, 2013 - 8:30am

Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 388 are ringing in the New Year by knocking on doors throughout Carson City. They are making personal visits to those who helped bring the Traveling Wall Memorial to Mills Park for “Battle Born Days” and the Nevada Day celebrations.

Rick Arnold, Chapter 388 President said; “We are going beyond a card or a letter. We had such tremendous community support that we want to show our gratitude. We are humbled and extremely grateful as we wanted to make this event a ‘coming home’ for Vietnam veterans and because of this support, we were able to do just that.”

One of those who received a personal visit was Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell, who is also a Vietnam Veteran and a member of the veteran’s group.

Carson City Vietnam Veteran Wilhelm J. Hussong Jr. said, “Bob is one of the most humble guys I have ever met. While there are many people who helped bring the memorial to town, Bob made sure we had what we needed, when we needed it.”
