STHS grad fundraising for Maasai Girls Education

Event Date:
August 10, 2019 (All day)

Former South Tahoe High School runner Kate Lambdin is taking on the next challenge on her marathon journey around the world. This time - Africa. Lambdin was a member of the STHS 2004 and 2005 State Championship Cross Country Teams and continued her running career at San Jose State University.

Lambdin is a member of the Seven Continents Club and is on a mission to complete a marathon on all seven. One year ago she ran a challenging 26.2 course on King George’s Island on Antartica, her fourth continent.

In August 2019, Lambdin will be running in the Amazing Maasai Marathon in Laikipia, Kenya which benefits furthering local girls' education past primary school. When these children are around 12-years-old they complete primary school and education is no longer free. For many families, it is common to arrange their daughters to be married or to stay home. Supporting education for girls provides them with opportunities they wouldn’t have otherwise and keeps them out of childhood marriage and motherhood.

Lambdin is hoping to raise $500 - the cost to pay for a one-year scholarship for one Maasai girl. For more information or to donate, please visit amazinggirls.org or Lambdin’s fundraising page, https://www.flipcause.com/secure/fundraiser/NDY4Nzc=/31452.
