Learn about the birds of Lake Tahoe at Lake of the Sky Amphitheater

Join Tahoe Heritage Foundation and Tahoe Institute for Nature Science on Friday July 14 for "Birds of Lake Tahoe" and the "Tahoe Big Year." This event will be held at Taylor Creek Visitor Center at 8:00 p.m. and is open to the public. There is a $5.00 donation to the Tahoe Heritage Foundation.

Tahoe Institute for Natural Science is a nonprofit organization seeking to advance the natural history, conservation, and ecosystem knowledge of the Tahoe region through science, education, and outreach. Dr. Will Richardson will present a talk on the birds who make Lake Tahoe their home, including information about the Tahoe Big Year. The presentation will share natural history tidbits and lots of wonderful photos!

What is the Tahoe Big Year you might ask? Beginning January 1, 2016, participants can scour the Lake Tahoe area in search of as many species of birds as they can find during 2015. This is not a competition per say, but an opportunity for the entire community to learn about the Tahoe region’s diverse bird community and rich birding opportunities. It is free to participate for all ages and you can sign up at tahoebigyear.org.

Tahoe Heritage Foundation, a non-profit that partners with the Forest Service to preserve the culture and natural history of Lake Tahoe, hosts this event at the Lake of the Sky Amphitheater. Taylor Creek Visitor Center is located approximately 3 miles north of South Lake Tahoe on the lakeside of Highway 89. The Visitor Center entrance is just past the entrance to the Tallac Historic Site and Fallen Leaf Lake Road. Dogs are permitted only on leash.
