Caltrans signs near the Y and other Sierra locations temporarily down

Some of the Changable Message Signs (CMS) in California are down due to a transition to a new technology. These signs in South Lake Tahoe normally show how long it takes to get from Stateline to the Y, and then to Placerville, along with other stops.
Caltrans had to break down one system before the next could be implemented.
The South Lake Tahoe signs should be working in about two weeks according to Caltrans officials. Other signs in the county should be back up in one week.
The signs have been handy tools for travelers as they travel. Major cities record travel times all day, especially during rush hour. Tahoe travelers can gage travel time home, and if very slow they can spend more time enjoying beaches, biking or skiing.
