Two NHL outdoor games planned for Edgewood Tahoe in February

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - There will be two National Hockey League (NHL) games held outdoors at a new rink at Edgewood Tahoe in February, according to a report today on Sports Net Canada.

The outdoor games will be between the Las Vegas Knights and Colorado Avalanche on February 20 and the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers on February 21.

NBC Sports, a long time partner with Lake Tahoe and the annual American Century Championships every July, is televising several NHL games this year. It is unknown at this time if they will broadcast from Lake Tahoe. Fans will not be in attendance, with the number of people limited to about 400 which covers the team traveling group and staff. Being on the edge of Lake Tahoe and outdoors, there will be unique opportunities for television to broadcast the games.

According to the Sports Net Canada story, this unique two-game, two-day “Outdoor Weekend” showcase is the result of league officials scouting a series of locations for a scenic event. As locals and American Century fans know, Edgewood Tahoe provides a spectacular lakefront venue and epic views for television.

Several NHL veterans have participated in the annual celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe over its 31-year history.

Edgewood opened a new 4,600-square feet rink on November 25, 2020 and is open to hotel guests and the public. When the Kardashians were on the South Shore to film their reality show they shared via social media they were on the ice for the opening. Hockey games are played on rinks over three times that size so a new one will most likely be built for the NHL games.

Carol Chaplin, executive director of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, said they cannot release any details at this time, and a message left with Edgewood Tahoe has not been returned. This story will be updated if new information is made available.
