Weidinger PR of Lake Tahoe Wins Four Silver Spike Awards

Lake Tahoe-based Weidinger Public Relations was presented with four awards by the Public Relations Society of American, Sierra Nevada Chapter for various campaigns at the organization’s 27th annual Silver Spike Awards.

The designations recognize northern Nevada’s best communications practices and professionals of 2013. The Silver Spike designation is the highest honor from the Chapter and identifies outstanding achievement, far-reaching client results, and high standards for quality of work and ethics. A total of 10 awards were presented to agencies, firms and businesses throughout the Sierra Nevada area for campaigns in the past year.

Weidinger PR received awards for each of its four entries: two Silver Spikes and two Awards of Excellence, with three designations on behalf of projects for the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and one for Tahoe Transportation District.

WPR received top honors for the American Century Championship, the annual celebrity golf tournament in association with the Vizion Group of Philadelphia, Pa., and partners NBC Sports, American Century Investments, Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, and Edgewood Tahoe.

A second Silver Spike was also earned with the Tahoe Transportation District campaign for The Incline Gateway, the announcement and grand opening of the Tahoe Basin’s first roundabout at Mt. Rose Highway and Highway 28. It featured local resident and environmental proponent Mike Love of the Beach Boys. The singer’s star power and his co-authored “I Get Around” gold record theme was part of the effort that helped shine a national spotlight on the event and conservation benefits to the area.

Awards of Excellence were received for Operation Sierra Storm, the television meteorologists’ conference that generated national media attention for Tahoe South as a leading winter destination. It featured keynote speaker, Chris Field, a member of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority public relations campaign in early summer about Tahoe South’s Redevelopment Renaissance earned an Award of Excellence in the Bronze Spike category for tactics as a result of extensive media coverage.

“To be recognized for a consistent level of superior work is something that makes our entire team proud,” said Phil Weidinger, principal. “We’re fortunate to be in a profession we love and to partner with clients we respect and enjoy.”
