Subaru WinterFest Kicks Off 2015 in South Lake Tahoe

The Second Annual Subaru Winterfest will be held at Sierra-at-Tahoe resort this weekend, January 3 and 4. Winterfest includes a Freeride Skills Course and equipment demos as well as the chance to meet an Olympian. South Lake Tahoe resident and Olympic Gold Medalist Maddie Bowman will be signing autographs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Subaru tent on Saturday. Bowman, 20, brought home the gold she won in the Women’s Ski Halfpipe in Sochi during the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Winterfest is a free event from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.

“This is a unique opportunity for guests and inspired young adults to meet a professional athlete who represents the heart and soul of this mountain,” says John Rice, general manager of Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort. “Maddie grew up here, progressed through our programs and now exemplifies not only a world-class skier, but an outstanding role model for young skiers and riders.”

The South Tahoe High graduate recently competed in the Winter Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships, where she won the Gold in Women’s Freeski Superpipe.

This year, Subaru brings along partners LibTech, Nordica and Yakima, who will be offering equipment demos on the latest technology in skis and snowboards, along with car racks for gear transportation. Subaru WinterFest is open to guests of all ages and will be staged on Sierra’s Solstice Plaza, a new 30,000 square foot sun deck located at the base of the Resort. Subaru will have exciting giveaways and all guests with a valid lift ticket can participate in the Freeride Skills Course.
