Next Lake Tahoe storm could drop another two feet of snow at lake level

As one storm leaves Lake Tahoe, the next one is waiting to enter, and forecasters say the new one could dump up to two feet of snow at lake level over the next two days.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning when the winter storm warning starts, and stays in place until 4:00 a.m. Thursday, January 5.

Expect widespread snow showers throughout the day on Tuesday, with snow becoming heaving at time this afternoon and all day Wednesday.

The National Weather Service said additional snow accumulations at lake level will be 12-24 inches, with 2-4 feet above the 7000 foot level. Winds will be picking up with the new storm. Gusts will be up to 45 mph at the lake, with winds 80-100 mph over the ridge tops. Associated waves on Lake Tahoe will be 2-4 feet.

A high danger avalanche warning has been issued by the US Forest Service Avalanche Center for the back country areas from Yuba Pass to Ebbetss Pass and the Lake Tahoe Basin. Ski areas and highway corridors take precautions to mitigate the danger so the warning is just in place for the back country.
