South Lake Tahoe Forecast: Chance of snow during the week ahead

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It will be a dry start to the week with a weak system dropping into the region late Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing a chance of snow to the Lake Tahoe Basin and Sierra Crest. The next weather system next weekend is system is expected to be colder, wetter, and stronger than recent storms, but still an overall average storm for the region. Impacts will likely include moderate snow totals for the Sierra, lighter accumulations across western Nevada, some travel disruptions possible for aviation and ground routes, and some gusty winds. Of course, the degree of these details will be strongly influenced by the system`s track with which models continue to struggle, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

Monday - Sunny, with a high near 45. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Monday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 19. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph.

Tuesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 48. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tuesday Night - A 40 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Wednesday - A 20 percent chance of snow before 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 39.

Wednesday Night - A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday - A chance of snow, mainly before 10am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 37.

Thursday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 16.

Friday - A slight chance of snow after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 43.

Friday Night - A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20.
