Windy conditions Sunday ahead of midweek weather changes

A major pattern change next week should finally bring snow to Lake Tahoe, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
In the photo illustration above, the first three images show the jet stream and large scale (synoptic) pattern changes forecast to take place over the Eastern Pacific Ocean next week. The persistent high pressure ridge that had kept most of the West Coast abnormally dry this winter is forecast to amplify and retrograde allowing the Sub-Tropical Jetstream to bring strong winter storms back to the Sierra. The fourth image shows a significant amount of moisture that should prompt the storms at the end of next week.
Meanwhile, critical fire weather conditions in the Sierra are expected Sunday.

A red flag warning and a wind advisory have been issued for areas of the Sierra Lake Tahoe on Sunday. The rare combination of lack of winter precipitation, strong gusty winds, and extremely low humidity will create dangerous fire conditions, according to the weather service. Ahead of the front winds will gust up to 55 mph at Lake Tahoe and in the Sierra. Low relative humidity ahead of the front will drop into the teens and possible single digits. Winds should settle on Sunday night once cold front arrives. Expect temperatures to be about 20 degrees colder with highs in the mid-30s.
