Rebecca Makkai is next featured author at LTCC’s Writers’ Series

The Lake Tahoe Community College Writers’ Series welcomes novelist Rebecca Makkai on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Board/Aspen Room inside the library building. Makkai will read selections from her work, answer audience questions, and sign copies of her books, which will be available for sale. This event is free and open to the public.

Makkai is the Chicago-based author of the novels The Hundred-Year House, winner of the Chicago Writers Association's Novel of the Year award, and The Borrower, a Booklist Top Ten Debut that has been translated into eight languages. Her short story collection, Music for Wartime, appeared in June 2015. Her short fiction was chosen for The Best American Short Stories for four consecutive years (2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008), and her writing appears regularly in journals like Harper's, Tin House, and New England Review. The recipient of a 2014 NEA fellowship, Makkai was visiting faculty this past fall at the nationally recognized Iowa Writers' Workshop.

LTCC’s Writers’ Series is committed to providing a cultural outlet for students and the community by hosting free readings, discussions, craft talks and workshops with nationally known, award-winning authors, as well as poetry slams, open mic nights and student readings. Over the past 15 years, LTCC has welcomed nationally-acclaimed poets and writers such as Carolyn Forché, Brian Turner, Denise Duhamel, Luis Rodriguez, H.L. Hix, Sholeh Wolpé, Chris Abani, Dorianne Laux, Francisco Jimenez, Juan Felipe Herrera, Nathalie Handal, Tracy Ross and Patricia Smith.
