One Billion Rising flashmob in South Lake Tahoe February 14

Event Date:
February 14, 2016 - 2:00pm

Men, women and children are invited to take part in the upcoming One Billion Rising flashmob which will be held in South Lake Tahoe on February 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

One Billion Rising is an international campaign launched to end domestic violence. Staggering statistics show that one in three women on earth will be beaten or raped during their lifetime, so with the world's population at seven billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls.

To bring the issue to the forefront, organizers are asking people to "Walk Our, Dance, Rise Up, and Demand and end to this violence."

The local event will be held at the Heavenly Village but there are practices going on already. While rehearsal isn't necessary it does help to get some of the moves down. Practice is held after Jazzercize class at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. There are also practices at the Community Center located inside the Bijou Center, next to Tahoe Wellness Center at 3445 Lake Tahoe Blvd on Sundays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Another location has just been added for practice at the Family Resource Center on Mondays and Fridays at 4:00 p.m. It is located next to Bijou School at 3501B Spruce Avenue.

For those that cannot make the practices the Break the Chain dance can be seen on this youtube video: https://youtu.be/zJQvJNfn0kc.

On February 14, the group will be meeting on the top floor of the garage at Heavenly Village at 1:30 p.m., then moving down onto the ground floor of the village for the performance at 2:00 p.m.
