Avalanche search training continues this week at Mt. Rose Summit Highway

The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District will continue its avalanche training on Wednesday and Friday at the Mt. Rose Summit Highway, across from the summit parking lot area.

Training objectives and stations will cover transceiver and RECCO search, proper probe line set up and execution, snow pit/snow pack information and a search dog demonstration.

“We invite our regional responders every year to join us so that we can all participate together and refresh our outdoor rescue and safety protocols” said Firefighter/Paramedic Bruce Hicks, who coordinates this annual training. “This annual refresher training allows agencies to review, practice and participate in hands-on avalanche training drills utilizing practical scenario set ups that replicate rescue situations.”

Agency partners and participants are: Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, Reno Fire Department, Washoe County Search and Rescue, Diamond Peak Ski Patrol, Mt Rose Ski Patrol and the Nevada Department of Transportation.
