Community to learn more about $55 million bond at LTCC open house

Event Date:
February 5, 2015 - 5:00pm

It's been almost three months since Measure F passed and now is the time for the $55 million bond approved by the voters to start being put to use.

The South Lake Tahoe community is invited to a LTCC Open House on Thursday, February 5 at 5 p.m. to learn more information about the bond and to hear about what projects and new construction will be coming to the campus.

Bond funds will be used to upgrade and repair existing college facilities and infrastructure, and will also give rise to several new buildings in support of existing and future academic programs and student support services.

After 26 years of heavy use by students, staff and the community, the college’s campus is showing its age. Classroom and lab technology is outdated, the aging HVAC systems are inefficient and costly to operate, and leaky roofs and deteriorating electrical, lighting, heating, ventilation and security systems are in need of repair or replacement throughout the campus. These problems have limited the quality of instruction, learning, job training, and career advancement. Measure F funding will directly address these matters, evolving the campus into a true destination college that draws students to our community and college.

The college is still accepting applications from interested individuals to serve on an independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee (COC). The COC oversees the expenditure of bond monies, and acts to assure the community that funds are spent in the fashion outlined in the bond resolution. If you are interested in serving on this committee, go to www.ltcc.edu/measuref for a PDF of the application. Submit your finished application in person to the Superintendent/President’s Office in the Main Building on campus, or email it to ShaferL@ltcc.edu for consideration.
