Community action team, STAT, starts new session in South Lake Tahoe

A new team of South Lake Tahoe residents is being recruited to take part in the next South Tahoe Action Team (STAT) training session. This program is designed to incorporate trained citizens in the field with the South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) and other first responders during times of crisis.

The next four-week session starts on Monday, February 5, 2018 and there are still spots available in the free program. They meet on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. at the SLTFR Training Center next to the Boys & Girls Club at 1100 Lyons Avenue.

Applications are availabale on the City's website, www.cityofslt.us/firestat.

Interested participants may also call SLTFR Captain Kim George at 530.542.6161 or by email at kgeorge@cityofslt.us.

Curriculum will include instruction taught by members of the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department. STAT team members will be expected to commit their time and will be called upon in times of natural disaster, large scale emergencies and times of need in the South Lake Tahoe area. Due to staffing and equipment limitations the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department will be reliant on local citizens’ abilities to assist in their neighborhoods with basic first aid and triage. We will also need STAT team members to be well versed in our command structure, emergency first aid, lifting/moving techniques, use of extinguishers, flood safety and building collapse.

All graduates of the program are honored during a City Council meeting.
