National Night Out in South Lake Tahoe August 6

National Night Out is held across the country annually as a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. It will be held on August 6 and South Lake Tahoe and the South Shore will be holding their event that night at Bijou Community School on Spruce Avenue from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Mass casualty / active shooter drill held in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/06/2018 - 5:33pmSouth Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) held a mass casualty/active shooter drive Thursday at their training center on Rufus Allen Blvd.
Since first responders don't want to use a real event to test their skills, drills of these types are crucial to their being prepared.
Tahoe Douglas Fire, Lake Valley Fire, California Highway Patrol, Care Flight/Remsa, Cal-Star, Cal-Tahoe JPA, South Tahoe Action Team, the FBI and South Lake Tahoe Police Department all joined SLTFR and 22 volunteers in the drills.
Out and About in South Lake Tahoe: National Night Out

Booths were set up by California Highway Patrol, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, Barton Heath, California Conservation Corps, South Lake Tahoe Action Team, El Dorado County STAR, El Dorado County Sheriff's Search & Rescue, South Lake Tahoe Drug Free Coalition and the El Dorado County Animal Shelter.
Food was provided by Kiwanis.
The event was also a toy drop off for Toys For Tots.

April 18, 2018 (All day) SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is another chance to become part of the South Tahoe Action Team (STAT), a team that provides valuable assistance to the community during a disaster.
South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) is now accepting applications for the next four-week long STAT Class starting April 18, and continuing on April 25, May 2 and May 16. The Wednesday classes run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and participants must be able to commit to all four classes.

There were 16 citizens participate in this session of the STAT training.
Community action team, STAT, starts new session in South Lake Tahoe

This program is designed to incorporate trained citizens in the field with the South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) and other first responders during times of crisis.
The next four-week session starts on Monday, February 5, 2018 and there are still spots available in the free program. They meet on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. at the SLTFR Training Center next to the Boys & Girls Club at 1100 Lyons Avenue.
New graduating class of South Tahoe Action Team members

Nearly 100 residents have been trained in the program offered by South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR).
“The STAT program is designed to have neighbors helping neighbors,” said South Tahoe Fire Department Chief Jeff Meston.

Evacuation Center opened in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sun, 01/08/2017 - 5:45pm7:25 p.m. update Sunday - A second evacuation site has been set up at South Tahoe Middle School in the Multi-Purpose Room. It will accommodate pets and is staffed by the City of South Lake Tahoe staff and South Tahoe Action Team volunteers.

The City of South Lake Tahoe and American Red Cross have opened an evacuation center at South Tahoe High School in the school's student union.
It is located at 1735 Lake Tahoe Boulevard. The Recreation Swim Complex is not available as an evacuation center due to flooding at that location.

Letter to the Editor: City’s 4th of July Parade a huge success

There were a total of 78 vehicles and approximately 200 people on foot either walking, biking, or dancing. American Legion Post 795 served as the parade marshals.
The City of South Lake Tahoe would like to say "Thank You" to all the parade participants, businesses and volunteers for making the 4th of July parade a fantastic community event!

The STAT program is designed to incorporate trained citizens in the field with the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department and other first responders during times of crisis. This is the first program of its kind in the Tahoe Basin.
"Our disaster preparedness capability is much better because of this class," said Fire Chief Jeff Meston.

The most important issue facing cities and local agencies is continued steadfast attention to the budget, both short term and long term fiscal impacts.
· FY 15/16 budget adopted on time and without use of alternative revenues (3rd consecutive year).
· Adopted 5-year Financial Forecast and 5-Year Capital Investment Plan.
