Viking Corner: This week at South Tahoe High

This week at South Tahoe High School, seniors visited the Scholarship Fair, a new school app was launched, and senior basketballers play their last home game.

On Campus

Thursday afternoon, seniors were released early from classes to experience the inaugural Scholarship Fair, an event held by the STHS counselors. Organizations like South Tahoe High School Alumni Association, Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Sierra, and El Dorado Community Foundation attended to educate the seniors on how they can earn scholarship money.

“It was exciting to have an organization for scholarships for kids like me, who have little knowledge about college and scholarships,” said Madison Riley. “It was helpful to know that our town gives out local scholarships as well because I didn’t know that until the fair.”

STHS has launched a new app, STHS Vikings, that features schedules, scores and articles about school athletics. The app is available in the Google Play and Apple App Store.

On the Court

The boys and girls' basketball team will celebrate Senior Night Friday night against archrival, Truckee High School. Their last home game is Tuesday against Fernley High School.

“I never thought that I would play my last high school home game,” said Joebelle Santos, captain of the girls' team. “I was made into a better athlete and person. I’m going to throw up tomorrow.”

Senior Dylan Chartraw said, “I’m honestly sad about hearing Tuesday is our last home game. I believe the big group of seniors, including myself, will definitely give it all we have for our home crowd.”

Girls play at 6:30 p.m. in the STHS Blue Gym. Boys play at 7:30 p.m.
