There is a widespread power outage in the Lake Tahoe area affecting 4,125 customers of Liberty Utilities.

At 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, power was lost to homes and businesses in Tahoe City, Tahoma, Homewood, Rubicon and Meeks Bay areas. Crews were dispatched but having difficulty finding the problem.

Liberty Utilities asks that if anyone sees a downed power line, heard a loud noise near a transformer, saw sparks, etc., to call their emergency number so the problem can be isolated and repairs can being. Their phone number is 1-844-245-6868.

Kathy Carter of Liberty Utilities reminds customers to be prepared for emergencies, even if there is no wind and snow due to the saturated ground and equipment with the heavy rains in Lake Tahoe.

Continue to use their outage map online at https://california.libertyutilities.com/south-lake-tahoe/residential/emergencies/electrical/outages-map.html for updates. Carter said the normal website traffic is 11,000 users a month, but with the January storms and power outages that number went up to over 60,000.
