Reno's David Wise Wins Gold in the Sochi: Skis out of Northstar in Lake Tahoe

David Wise of Reno, Nevada won gold today in the first ever Olympic Men's Freeskiing Halfpipe in Sochi. The Wooster High Grad topped competitors with a first run of 92 and hit the deck and didn't finish his second run.

The 23 year old Wise calls Northstar of Lake Tahoe his home resort. He won the gold medal in the X Games the last three years.

"It’s amazing," said Wise of his winning. "It’s always rough when the conditions aren’t perfect and you don’t get to do the runs that you were hoping to do. I’ve had a Sochi run on my mind for a long time that I really wanted to throw down tonight, but you guys will just have to wait to see that one. I’m really proud of freeskiing tonight. The riders all came out, stepped it up and put on a good show in spite of the rough conditions. I’m happy to have landed my run and it’s an amazing honor."

American Aaron Blunck from Denver placed 7th.
