Storm passing through South Lake Tahoe, chain controls remain

12:30 p.m. update February 18:

The sun is coming out over Lake Tahoe after a quick moving storm left over two feet of snow at the upper elevations, one foot at lake level.

Chain controls remain at this time, with chains are required on all vehicles except 4WD with snow tires on all 4 wheels from Meyers to Twin Bridges.

Hwy 88 is closed from 3.5 miles east of Silver Lake to Kirkwood due to avalanche control. Chains are required on all vehicles except 4WD with snow tires on all 4 wheels from Ham's Station to 3.5 miles east of Silver Lake, and from Kirkwood to Pickett's Junction.

Hwy 89 updates: Chains are required on all vehicles except 4WD with snow tires on all 4 wheels from Markleville to Woodfords, Pickett's Junction to Meyers, from Bliss State Park north. It remains closed at Emerald Bay due to Avalanche control.

Chains or snow tires over Mt. Rose Highway and Spooner Summit.

Highway 50 - Chains are required on all vehicles except 4WD with snow tires on all 4 wheels from 4 miles east of Placerville to Meyers. Chains or snow tires from Carson City to Stateline.

Highway 88 - Closed from 3.5 miles east of Silver Lake to Kirkwood at 8:30 am for avalanche control. Chains are required on all vehicles except 4WD with snow tires on all 4 wheels from Dew Drop to 3.5 miles east of Woodfords.

Highway 89 - Chains are required on all vehicles except 4WD with snow tires on all 4 wheels from Markleville to Woodfords. Chains are required on all vehicles except 4WD with snow tires on all 4 wheel from Picketts Junction to 2.7 miles south of the junction with US 50. Closed from 5 miles north of the junction with US50 to Bliss State Park.
