Two Weather Systems Heading Into Lake Tahoe Basin This Week

The winter of 2013/2014 has become a season of watching storm after storm hit the mid-west and east, and watching dribbles of moisture swing by the west once in awhile.

This week will be one of those chances for the west to get some much needed moisture as two storm systems head to the area.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Reno, the Sierra Crest will get 12 to 18 inches of snow Wednesday into Thursday, with 3 to 6 inches expected at Lake Level. Temperatures on Wednesday start out warm, with a high of 51, so there will be rain at first, changing into snow overnight when the lows near freezing. Rain of .39 inches is expected as well.

The next storm system due in Lake Tahoe is taking a more southerly route than first expected. Heavier snow will hit Mono County and the Sierra Crest. The weather service's models are all over the place on estimates, though accuweather.com says Lake Tahoe basin will get a foot of snow on Friday.
