South Lake Tahoe Locals Shaving Heads on Saturday

Event Date:
March 1, 2014 - 3:00pm

At least 77 of your neighbors and friends will be participating in the 3rd Annual South Lake Tahoe St. Baldrick's headshaving event on Saturday, March 1 at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena. What was developed by three businessmen from New York City in 1999 as a way to give back to their community has turned into over 1,000 nation wide events each year that are held to raise money to help find cures for childhood cancer. Since becoming a non-profit in 2005, St. Baldrick's Foundation has given out $125,251,567 in grants.

In 2013, 49,853 men and 8,840 women had their heads shaved, raising #34,366,497 nationwide. Over 100 are expected on Saturday in South Lake Tahoe.

At South Lake Tahoe's event on Saturday, men, women and children have raised money to bring the total pledged, to date, to almost $19,000, with much more expected at the door. There are teams from Kirkwood and Heavenly Ski Patrols, Borges Chiropractic and two teams honoring children with Neuroblastoma, Bailey and Catelyn. Heavenly Valley Resort Vice President and COO Pete Sonntag is having his head shaved along with Dr. Deanna Brothers and many other community members.

There is a $50 minimum donation to have your head shaved at the South Lake Tahoe event which will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Six licensed hair stylists will have head shavers to take care of all the participants.

St. Baldrick’s research grants help fill crucial funding gaps at medical institutions where children are treated for cancer, ensuring the finest care for every child. For more information on participating, phone 888-899-2253.
