Two storms heading to Lake Tahoe; Winter Weather Advisory in place

An active weather pattern is expected for the upcoming week as two storm systems affect the Sierra and western Nevada.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday, February 26. Snow is expected with total accumulations of 6 - 12 inches expected in the Lake Tahoe area.

The first storm will bring snow to far northeast California by late Sunday evening, then spread south and east overnight into Monday. Winter Weather advisories are in effect for northeast California, northwest Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Area, where snowfall amounts are most likely to range from several inches up to 1 foot. For the remainder of western Nevada and into Mono County, overall snowfall amounts are not expected to be as significant, but there remains a possibility for portions of these areas to receive short periods of moderate to heavy snowfall, producing poor visibility and slick travel conditions. Now is the

time to ensure your vehicle is ready for winter driving, and expect extra travel time or adjust plans for both the morning and afternoon commutes on Monday. Across lower elevations, roads could become icy and dangerous by Monday evening as temperatures drop below freezing.

For Thursday and Friday, a stronger Pacific storm will arrive with gusty winds, rain and snow. Significant snowfall is likely in the Sierra Thursday into Friday night. Rain and snow are likely in Western Nevada with some snow accumulation possible late Thursday night into Friday on the valley floors. Details on
snowfall will become clearer as we get closer to the event. Check back later in the week for the latest information on this developing storm.
