Woman okay after being found in buried car in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It is not your every day occurrence when plowing the snow from streets in South Lake Tahoe. A plow operator was heading east at 8:35 a.m. on Cedar Avenue when the plow hit something in the snow on February 17, 2019. He got out to investigate and found a car buried by recent storms. The trunk had popped open with the impact.

Due to City property hitting a car, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department was called to the scene on Cedar Avenue, just west of Stateline Avenue. Thinking the car just needed to be towed away, staff started shoveling out the car so the tow truck could gain access.

It was a surprise to all when a woman was looking out of her car window and what turned out to be her rescuers.

The unidentified 48-year-old woman told police she had been in her car "four or five hours" when the plow hit her. It had been snowing hard and the car became completely buried. The car's battery was dead and she couldn't open its windows according to SLTPD Lt. David Stevenson.

Had the plow not hit the car the outcome may have been much more serious. It is unknown by officers if she was living in her car or where she is from.
