Arrests and medical issues down during second day of SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. The second night of the 9th annual SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe is in the books.

From a law enforcement side, things have been fairly quiet when compared to past years. On Monday night there were 35 citations issued by the Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC), all related to minors in possession or adults furnishing alcohol to minors.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department arrested two people for public intoxication at the event.

No attendees had to be transported to Barton Hospital, the same as the first night of the festival. Rock Med, the onsite volunteer medical crew, treated 23 patients. Facts from outside the venue, in South Lake Tahoe, are not yet available.

SnowGlobe officers arrested one person for resisting.

ABC has been busy in the community outside of SnowGlobe, checking on activities by licensees. They cited ten on Monday.

"Things have been going great," said SLTPD Lt. David Stevenson. "There have been very few issues at the event and no transports in two days."

There is another side to SnowGlobe though, the one of community members who hear the music and fireworks from their homes. A Facebook group set up by the NoGlobe Alliance is full of complaints as are other local Facebook page. Many comments are from those who say the noise isn't much of an issue this year as well.

"Event organizers and City staff again conducted continuous monitoring of sound levels at the perimeter of the event venue, and generally recorded decibel readings in the 70 – 85-decibel range, which are within stipulated permit requirements," said the City's Communications Manager Chris Fiore in a press release.

The City of South Lake Tahoe set up a complaint line for residents to use. 55 people left messages via phone and email, an increase from the night before. Fiore said he and staff will reply to those concerns but many of those did not leave their contact info or left false email addresses.

There are also new concerns from the public about the change in the fireworks launch venue change to Bijou Community Park. The adjustment of the stages for sound mitigation resulting in the change of fireworks.

"Most of the complaints were associated with firework noise, very few about noise from the music," added Fiore. "City staff again responded to all complaints with return phone calls and/or in-person visits. We also got several calls from residents who were pleased with sound adjustments made by the alteration of the stage and other changes this year. Specifically, sound levels in the Pioneer Village neighborhood are far below what those folks have experienced in years past."
