Missing dog from Fresno finds way to South Lake Tahoe

If only dogs could talk!

Two months after a dog went missing from a Fresno family's home, he showed up in South Lake Tahoe. How he got to the lake is unknown, and the truth most likely will never be uncovered.

On the day after Christmas, 2015, Toby the dog escaped from his yard after someone lifted the fence to break into the family's home after they had left for a two day trip to Las Vegas.

Upon their return they found Toby missing, and his whereabouts were unknown until Friday, February 26 when local resident Tristan Thompson was driving home from work along Washington Street in South Lake Tahoe. When the dog darted out into the street and was almost hit, Thompson pulled over to see where the dog would go, and the pooch jumped right into his truck. Toby was taken home to the Thompson household for the evening.

The dog was skinny, and dirty, but in good spirits and apparently felt right at home as he and the Thompson children bonded right away. Pictures of Toby were posted on Facebook and Animal Control was contacted, but no word on who his owner was came in during the night. The next morning the Thompsons took the dog to Alpine Animal Hospital to see if he happened to be micro-chipped, and he was!

The owners were called at their home in Fresno and the happy ending was being written. The Thompsons kept the dog at home one more evening until his owners drove up to South Lake Tahoe on Sunday to pick him up. Amy Thompson said she wanted to experience the heartwarming reunion as well as giving her kids one more night to say goodbye to their temporary family member.

"The owners drove up from Fresno today to pick up their friend and the happy family was reunited," said Amy Thompson. "It was so heartwarming to see them all together again! The couple tried to hand us money as a reward, which we adamantly refused."
