Rude Brothers looks for new home after building is sold

The building is old and worn out, but the coffee, bagels and treats inside have kept both locals and visitors happy for over two decades.

Rude Brother's Bagels is located on the bottom floor of a building located at 3117 Harrison Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. The current owners of the popular coffee and bagel shop, Jim and Lisa Gosh, have been in the same location since 2001 after buying the business from Steve Rude.

When the building sold in mid-February, the Goshes were told the new owners were going to do a six-month long remodel but they'd be keeping their business in that location according to Liz Gosh, their daughter.

Now, they have until April 1, 2016 to find a new location.

"We don't know what to do," said Liz. "We don't have tons of money to do anything." She said they will be closing the doors at their current location on Sunday, March 27.

Lisa and Jim were meeting with a Realtor Wednesday, checking out the old Carrow's Restaurant location adjacent to Motel 6.

Liz said many people have been contacting them with ideas for relocation ever since their plight was posted on Facebook. She even started a GoFundMe campaign to assist with moving costs.

The blue building was bought by local businessmen including John Cefalu and Mike McKeen.

"I know Mike is planning something amazing and timeless that will integrate with Sprouts and also the Cefalu's Globin building," said Chris Brackett, owner of South Tahoe Standup Paddle. Brackett's business is also moving. Standup Paddle is moving to the back of the building, back to where the business began.

Brackett was also interested in buying the building and got involved in a bidding war with the buyers.

A South Lake Tahoe resident since 1980, Brackett said he believes everything happens for a reason and is looking forward to the change.

McKeen was not available for comment on his plans for the newly purchased building.
