The breakfast, moved outside this year due to COVID-19, was held each Saturday in December with the guest stars, Santa and Mrs. Claus. A limited number of tickets were available and each breakfast sold out.

These three words beginning the filming of any movie and they've been heard quite a bit recently around the Lake Tahoe and the Carson City area. The beautiful scenery the area provides has been the prefect holiday backdrop for romantic Christmas movies this season.
"Feliz NaviDAD," "Dear Christmas," and "Once Upon a Main Street," were all filmed in the area this year, following last year's "Christmas Reservations" and years of Hollywood movie hits.

The American Legion Auxiliary and Vets in Counseling members placed approximately 600 flags at Happy Homestead Monday, after the snow fell.

The South Lake Tahoe Library is holding a parking lot/sidewalk book sale on Saturday, November 14th from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tables will be set up with a great selection of books to choose from.
Prices are only $5 a bag and $1 per large, coffee table books. Great selection for fireside reading this winter.
For the health and safety of all, masks will be worn, entry will be monitored to one person (or family group) per table and hand sanitizer will be available. At check-out, correct change is appreciated.

"I wanted to create magic and had this idea for a long time," explained Sandra. She grew up in Holland where there were places where people would meet, talk and enjoy, and wanted that in South Lake Tahoe. She also grew up with a love of books that has stayed with her as she lived in Tunisia and now the United States. Books were both her inspiration and her escape.

Volunteers spend Tahoe Forest Stewardship day restoring Johnson Meadow

The Tahoe Resource Conservation District (TRCD) purchased the Johnson Meadow in 2018, a critical step in restoring the river's watershed that contains significant wildlife habitat, including river, riparian, meadow, and upland habitat areas.

On Friday afternoon, one by one, the South Tahoe and Mt. Tallac High School seniors stepped out of their decorated cars amidst cheering from teachers and staff. They sent the students onto the red carpet, down the stairs to more cheering, and dancing, and more red carpet, as they made their way onto a ski lift at Sierra-at-Tahoe.
Tahoe Homeless Coalition housed 148 people this winter; New services now offered

The City of South Lake Tahoe opened its recreation center to the nonprofit as it was already closed due to the pandemic, allowing TCH to add more beds and services and become a 24/7 facility.
Governor outlines guidelines for reopening Nevada with phase one Saturday
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/07/2020 - 5:39pmNevada Governor Steve Sisolak has unveiled his plan for the state to reopen under phase one starting May 9, 2020. Outdoor malls, restaurants, hair salons, and barber shops are among those able to reopen with new standards for safety.
"We must stay safe so we can stay open," said Sisolak of the ability to move into phase 2 by the end of May, or sooner.
"The beginning of the reopening of our economy is not the end of the coronavirus," said Sisolak during a press conference Thursday afternoon. "It's still with us, as strong as ever. It will not go away until there's a vaccine."
Community spirit surrounds South Lake Tahoe food giveaway

This time, Overland owners Brian and Kim Cohen had other businesses join in the fun.
Grass Roots gave away $10 gift cards, Heart Rock Herb & Spice Co. gave away spice samples, and Safeway at Bijou added two pallets of fresh fruits and vegetables to the mix.
"This is community effort at its finest," said Brian.
Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra's virtual Elegant Evening a success

Their 31t annual Elegant Evening was slated to be held at Harrah's Tahoe on April 18 with a sit-down dinner, live music, and dancing, raffle, and auction. The venue closed and restrictions on meeting in groups of over 10 people were created, so what do you do with an event that brings together 500 community members?
Move it online, of course.

Governor orders all Nevada casinos and non-essential businesses to close

The Stateline, Nevada casinos not already closed will close March 17 at midnight. The nonessential businesses in the state must close by noon on Wednesday, March 18.
Key's Cafe offering free breakfast to South Lake Tahoe children

Starting Monday, the Keys Cafe is offering free breakfast to children in grades K-6th with 30 percent off for parents. Keys Cafe is located at 2279 Lake Tahoe Blvd. #2, South Lake Tahoe. It is behind Enterprise Rental Car near Tahoe Keys Blvd. The free offer is good from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. M-F until April 1.
Knights of Columbus to hold annual St. Patrick's Day dinner - Canceled

The dinner will be a traditional corned beef and cabbage meal with potatoes, carrots, Irish soda bread and plenty of desserts. It will run from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the church's Grace Hall, located at 1041 Lyons Avenue in South Lake Tahoe.

Caesars Entertainment announces sale of Harrah's Reno

On Thursday, Caesars Entertainment Corporation and VICI Properties Inc. announced in a press release they signed an agreement to sell Harrah’s Reno Hotel and Casino to an affiliate of CAI Investments for $50 million.

After a slow start to November, Mother Nature has turned on the tap, bringing Sierra two feet of snow and counting in the last 48 hours. This, combined with Sierra’s snowmaking efforts, will allow the resort to open for operations. Conditions permitting, Sierra plans to run Easy Rider Express, Rock Garden Chair and two surface lifts, with access to 2 runs and one terrain park.

They were both planning on opening this Friday, Nov. 22. At this time, Heavenly will target Wednesday, Nov. 27 and Northstar will target Friday, Nov. 29 to open for skiing and snowboarding. Kirkwood will announce an opening date in the coming days.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Whole Foods Market will be opening its doors in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, November 6. The new 28,500 square foot store will have an Opening Day celebration starting at 9:00 a.m. with complimentary refreshments, bites and music before the store opens. The first 300 customers will receive a Whole Foods Market South Lake Tahoe reusable tote bag, as well as a savings card with a mystery value ranging between $5 and $100 and a miniature loaf of bread to honor the Whole Foods Market tradition of breaking bread with the community.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A day full of family-friendly fun will take place on Saturday, October 19 during the Bijou Bash at Bijou Community Park in South Lake Tahoe from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
“This community works hard all year to make South Lake Tahoe what it is and we want to celebrate that,” said City Manager Frank Rush, “At the end of the day families matter, citizens matter, this event is the city’s way of bringing everyone together to acknowledge that.”

Close to 70 nominees will be celebrated at the 12th annual Blue Ribbon Awards on Thursday, Nov. 14 at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe Hotel and Casino. Join the Tahoe Chamber in celebrating the businesses and individuals that make the South Shore a great community to live, work and play. Admission to this event is $65 for Tahoe Chamber members and $85 for non-members. Tickets include champagne, wine and full 3-course dinner prepared by Harrah’s executive culinary team. Boathouse Theatre from October 3-5 at 7:30 p.m. Deanna and Paul, Cafe D’Automatique and Funeral for a Friend, all award-winning short plays will be performed each night.
