Dr. Mandi Weavil wins Dancing With the Tahoe Stars

A packed house at MontBleu Resort Saturday night witnessed ten local celebrity couples dancing for the ultimate prize, the mirror ball trophy, during Tahoe Art's Project annual Dancing With the Tahoe Stars fundraiser.

After a few weeks of practicing with their trained professional partner, the celebrities put on an entertaining show that brought out the cheers and applause, and lots of money for the non-profit.

Dr. Mandi Weavil, and her partner Gerzon Chaves brought the crowd to their feet after their energetic and entertaining Cumbia dance. What most of the audience did not know at the time, was that Dr. Weavil had broken a metatarsal bone in her foot the night before while rehearsing the dance.

They were among the top three couples and joined by South Tahoe High Principal Chad Houck and his partner Robyn Linder (they danced swing), and TechTastic owner Zion Finck and his partner Rhonda Keen, who danced Broadway.

After scores were tabulated, along with a first-ever text vote, and adding up the donations the dancers brought in, Dr. Weavil won the event and the coveted mirror ball. Weavil and Chaves earned a perfect score of 30, along with raising the most money, over $7,000.

The other South Lake Tahoe celebrities competing and their partners:

Physician Kelly Shanahan and Rainer Herm — disco.
CrossFit trainer Iris Kamm with Jorge Favio Orozco — salsa.
Retired UPS worker Michelle Ludiker and Wolfgang Reichstine — fox trot.
Whittell High School teacher Lindsay Wines and Bob Truesdale — two step.
South Lake Tahoe police Sgt. Travis Cabral with Rebecca Lincoln — ChaCha.
OneTrust Home Loans owner David Greco with Anjela Zajic — hip hop.
Lakeland Village Resort’s Jerry Bindel and Angela Smith — waltz

Judges for the evening were Marcia Sarosik, Paul Middlebrook and Don Bosson. Dreu Murin was the producer of the show as well as the announcer for the evening, something he's done for the past three years.
