Viking Corner: This week at South Tahoe High

This week at South Tahoe High School, students put on their coats and boots to bear the snow, which continued to fall throughout the week. With temperatures on campus as low as 15F in the morning, it seldom got warmer than 30F. Also this week, the local 4-H club is looking for leadership coaches, and Kody Griffis just signed up to play college football in South Dakota.

In School
The 4-H club held its first meeting on Tuesday to recruit students interested in leadership training. Run by UC Cooperative Extension Central Sierra in Placerville, the club instructs high school students how to teach elementary kids about living a healthy lifestyle.

Instructor training begins March 12. Students will be visiting Tahoe Valley (June 3), Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School (June 5) and Bijou (June 6).

In Sports
Baseball had to postpone its pre-season scrimmage against Douglas High School on Tuesday due to rain. The first game of the season against Lowry on Friday is also in danger of a rain-out, with the varsity game already postponed for a later date.

Softball continues to get ready for its opener North Valley on March 15.

Senior Kody Griffis recently signed with Presentation College, a small school in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to continue his football career in the North Star Division (NAIA). Griffis plans to study finance and economics.

“What I look forward most to is getting to play football at the next level and becoming my own person while having a college experience,” said Griffis.
