County selects Courtney Walker for County Stormwater Program Manager

South Lake Tahoe residents may remember Courtney Walker when she worked for the Tahoe Resource Conservation District and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, but now she has a new job as the newly hired Douglas County Stormwater Program Manager.

She is bringing with her over 10 years of experience with stormwater and watershed management. With much of her experience in the Tahoe and Carson River Watershed area, Courtney is well versed in local stormwater and watershed coordination.

“I am very excited about this position, and I look forward to working with local residents to find feasible solutions for flooding concerns and stormwater runoff throughout the County,” said Courtney Walker. “My background and experience has given me the foundation for stormwater coordination in the Tahoe Basin and the Carson Valley, and I am eager to work collaboratively with the local community.”

Courtney grew up in Douglas County, and has recently moved back to the area with her husband Tripp and four year old daughter. She received her Bachelor of Science in Earth and Environmental Science from the University of California, Irvine in 2004. She has worked previously with local, state, and regional governmental organizations.

The primary functions of the Stormwater Program Manager are to manage the Lake Tahoe TMDL water clarity crediting program, facilitate the County MS4 permits for stormwater runoff, maintain and improve the County’s rating in FEMA’s Community Rating System program, in which property owners in a special flood hazard area receive a discounted rate on flood insurance, and assist with current and proposed development in the floodplain.
