EDC Supervisors to vote on purchase of old Bijou Post Office for new office space

The old Bijou Post Office on Sandy Way in South Lake Tahoe may soon be home to new El Dorado County offices. This property is across the street from their current government center at the corner of Takela Drive and Lake Tahoe Boulevard.
During the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, there will be a vote on the agenda item regarding purchase of the property for $1,250,000. Supervisor Sue Novasel said they have been putting money aside to be used in an El Dorado Center Campus in South Lake Tahoe. The project includes a major remodel of both buildings.
"This is a huge win for us," said Novasel.
If the other supervisors are on board and the purchase goes through, the plan is to move all the offices from the El Dorado Center into their new property, remodel that building and floor spaces, then split up all offices between the two buildings.
This new plan also give employees and clients more available parking in addition to improved work space.
The current owner of the post office is Urbana Tahoe TC, LLC, owner of the nearby Beach Retreat & Lodge at Tahoe. They had purchased the building in 2014 with plans to eventually create extra banquet/convention center space.
Funds for the purchase, if approved with at least a 4/5 vote, will require a budget transfer decreasing Public Health contingency and increasing operating transfers out and increasing operating transfers in and appropriations for fixed
assets/buildings in the Accumulative Capital Outlay fund in the amount of
$1,500,000 for the purchase of 3368 Sandy Way and associated due
diligence and staff costs.
