South Lake Tahoe snow covered carport collapses; No injuries

The carport of a South Lake Tahoe home at the corner of Sierra Boulevard and Pinter Avenue collapsed on Monday.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue responded to the call at 2:30 p.m. March 13. Upon arrival they found the carport down with some damage to the home.

Crews responding to the scene secured utilities and patched the roof to avoid further damage.

There were no vehicles underneath the carport and nobody was injured according to SLT Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Jim Drennan. He said responders couldn't estimate amount of snow on the carport roof as it was already down when they arrived.

This is the second roof collapse on the South Shore in four days, the other destroying a home on Kingsbury Grade Friday. There has been no fresh snow in one week. Homeowners should check the ice on their roofs to ensure water from melting snow can make it off the roof and to the ground. Extra snow should be removed as it has been sitting there for a few months.
