Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe to close due to coronovirus concerns

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) will be joining Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) and closing on the advice of El Dorado County due to safety concerns stemming from the coronavirus COVID-19.

BGCLT will be closed the same time frame as LTUSD which will be determined weekly, but at least for the week of March 16-20.

At this time, BGCLT Executive Director Jude Wood said there is a possibility they may not be able to reopen for Spring Break, but that determination will come as soon as possible.

"We understand that this will create additional difficulties for our families, but social isolation is the primary recommendation to stop the spread of COVID-19. As safety is our No. 1 priority; we must follow the advice of the Center for Disease Control, the County Board of Education and the County Health Office," said Wood.

LTUSD plans to continue to provide food for families at bus stops across the city.

The BGCLT supper program will be closed until they can get direction from USDA regarding the parameters of our food program grant. Many of you have already volunteered to help, and if given permission to modify the program, we will reach out.

Those with appointments for summer and after-school 2020-21 sign-ups and orientations will be contacted by BGCLT staff and conduct the appointment either virtually or to rearrange your appointment.

BGCLT will continue to update the community as this situation evolves and encourage club members to visit their Facebook page for updates.

"These are exceptional times that we are living through, but we will get through them if we stand together as a community. We are #TahoeStrong. Thank you for your understanding and commitment to our community’s well being," said Wood.
