South Lake Tahoe Fire Department raises $6,000 for St. Baldrick's Foundation

South Lake Tahoe Firefighters participated and raised $6,000 in the second annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation event in South Lake Tahoe on Friday, March 8. The St. Baldrick’s foundation was formed in 2005 and surpassed $100 million in donations last year for childhood cancer research across the nation. The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department put together one of several teams from the community who all rallied together to raise money.

This year’s participants from the Fire Department included: Karl Koeppen, Holt Cawelti, Paul Bias, Trent Renner, Mark Wygant, Kevin VanKirk, Tyler Jack, Kris Klay, Jody Benavidez, Chris Wildman and his two sons Cooper and Colin, Mike Mileski, Pat Hambel, Rob Hembree, Scott Blasser, Jim Drennan and his son Cameron.

Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation, based in Reno, sponsored the event. As a non-profit they have contributed more to families affected by childhood cancer in northern Nevada and the Tahoe Basin than any other charity.

Several families in the Tahoe Basin have been affected by childhood cancer and the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department was proud to be a part of this event and to give back to the community. As of the most recent tally, nearly $50,000 was raised. Donations can be made at any time to either of these charities.
