No confirmed COVID-19 cases in El Dorado County, one in Truckee

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials and agency partners have been closely monitoring the outbreak of novel Coronavirus COVID-19. As of March 17 at 2:00 p.m. there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County.

In Carson City, there has been one confirmed case of COVID-19, and in Truckee, there has also been one laboratory-confirmed case of the virus. The Truckee resident is an adult and has been isolated at home. They recently traveled outside the country, and at this time it appears the disease was acquired during international travel, but Nevada County officials are still in the earliest stages of an investigation. The person’s close household contacts are under quarantine and have no symptoms at this time. The person was not out in the community while ill, officials said.

“Our team has been planning to see COVID-19 in Nevada County and we have been working with local partners such as local health providers, schools, and business community to prepare,” said Nevada County Public Health Officer Dr. Ken Cutler. “We have seen how the virus has been transmitted through the community in other states and in parts of California, and we recommend the public prepare for community transmission in Nevada County, unrelated to this case, as well.”

“We are working around the clock to make sure residents have the best information possible and are informed to help slow the spread of this disease. There are actions community members can take to help protect themselves, their families and coworkers. By taking simple, but effective steps together we can slow the spread of COVID-19,” said Dr. Cutler.

In the state of California, as of March 16 at 6:00 p.m., there were 472 positive COVID-19 cases and eleven fatalities.

Although El Dorado County does not currently have any confirmed cases of COVID-19, El Dorado County has declared a Public Health Emergency to ensure appropriate resources and funding are available to the County in its response to COVID-19. The declaration also allows the County to provide or receive mutual aid from other jurisdictions.
