Highway reopens after another snow slide closes Echo Summit

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Travelers over Highway 50 and Echo Summit today had some challenges, once after the road was closed for avalanche control, and a second time when a snow slide covered the road.

One person was injured when their car was involved in the snow slide. They were transferred to the hospital with non-serious injuries according to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO). Another buried car had no injuries involved.

EDSO said this slide was the "largest yet this spring" and they were joined by California Highway Patrol, Caltrans and Lake Valley Fire in getting all involved off of the highway safely.

The highway opened a couple of hours later, once the snow was cleared.

This closure followed a closure earlier Sunday afternoon when cannons were used to address avalanche concerns.
