Fast moving storm to bring rain and snow to Lake Tahoe; back in 60s by Sunday

A relatively weak Spring storm is headed to Lake Tahoe, bringing with it modest rain and snow amounts as it moves through the Sierra and western Nevada on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Snow levels will be down to around 4500 - 5500 feet. Although it will be cold enough for widespread snow showers, there won't be much in the way of snow totals with this storm though the West Slope should see more than the Lake Tahoe Basin and Reno. On Wednesday, the NWS in Sacramento forecast 4"-8" for the higher elevations.

Most of the precipitation will arrive during the daytime hours when temperatures Since it will be coming through during the day, accumulations will be hard to come by. There is the outside chance that showers could continue after sunset, which would result in snow accumulating more readily and potentially more travel impacts in the lower elevations. There will be a significant warm up over the weekend.

Forecast:

Tonight - Isolated snow showers after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday - Snow showers, mainly before 11am. High near 43. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday Night - Scattered snow showers before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph becoming west 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Friday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 47. Northeast wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Friday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 29. East wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 58.

Saturday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 34.

Sunday - Sunny, with a high near 63.

Sunday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 37.

Monday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 63.

Monday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 38.
