Another week of typical spring weather ahead for South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Ever-changing weather for the Lake Tahoe Basin is a normal spring pattern though most are hoping with more sun and less snow and rain. This week will be much of the same.

Active spring weather returns to start the new week with a pair of storms set to make impacts to most of the region. Gusty southwest winds, valley rain, and mountain snow are expected through Tuesday. Sunshine and warmer temperatures return for the second half of next week as high pressure moves in according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Snow levels look to sit around 7000 feet by Monday afternoon but lower down to 5500-6000 feet by early Tuesday morning as the system`s cold front moves through the region. The snow accumulation forecast for the Sierra is still on track with 4-7 inches expected around 7000 feet with up to 10 inches possible for higher elevations on the crest. A dusting to an inch is also possible for areas down

to around Lake Tahoe and Mammoth Lakes. As for western Nevada, mostly rain showers are anticipated with totals of a couple hundredths of an inch by Tuesday morning.

Southwest gusts of 30-40 mph with the Sierra ridges up to 75 mph are forecast before decreasing Tuesday morning with a chilly northwest flow to follow.

The forecast from the National Weather Service in Reno:

Monday - A 50 percent chance of showers after 11am. Increasing clouds, with a high near 47. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Monday Night - Rain and snow showers. Low around 27. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday - A 30 percent chance of snow showers before 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 47. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 25.

Wednesday - Sunny, with a high near 57.

Wednesday Night - Clear, with a low around 30.

Thursday - Sunny, with a high near 61.

Thursday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 33.

Friday - Sunny, with a high near 64.

Friday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 35.

Saturday - A slight chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 59.

Saturday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31.

Sunday - Partly sunny, with a high near 55.
