People's Climate March in South Lake Tahoe Saturday

Event Date:
April 29, 2017 - 10:00am

The People's Climate Change March in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, April 29 will bring together families and community members concerned with protection of climate and the environment, beginning at Lakeview Commons at 10:00 a.m.

From the Commons, marchers will head over to Bijou Park for the local Earth Day celebration where presentations will take place.

The march is also a celebration of the decision by the City of South Lake Tahoe City Council to use 100 percent renewable energy by 2032. Momentum from those backing this resolution will be used to continue the fight against climate change. Years of measures to protect the future of the planet are in jeopardy and march organizers want to use their event to send a message to Washington.

"Donald Trump is a threat to the future of our planet, the safety of our communities, and the health of our families," said organizers on their webpage, sierranevadaalliance.com/events/climate-march/. "Let’s make sure that we mark the 100th day of his presidency with another mass action that stands up for our communities.

Those interested should meet at Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe at 10:00 a.m., then they'll leave at 10:30 a.m. to march to Bijou Park.
